We have decided to do some more research through old newspaper archives to bring you the "Unsolved Mystery of Mildred Ann (Newlin) Reynolds death back on a Tuesday, 13 March 1956, sometime around 1 p.m., on a rural dirt road a couple of miles East of where Mildred and her husband, R. D. Reynolds, resided. Mr. Reynolds at the time was a basketball coach and principal at the Avard High School, in Northwest Oklahoma.

On our OkieLegacy website we have gathered research of the March 13, 1956 unsolved death of Mildred Ann (Newlin) Reynolds - The Okie Legacy - Old Avard Road Unsolved Mystery.
If you look back to our OkieLegacy Ezine/Tabloid newsletter, Vol. 5, Iss. 16 - 2003-04-19, NW OK Unsolved Mystery - 13 March 1956, you will see a couple of anonymous comments stating: "I know who did this or sure think I do, very prominent farmer in the Avard area at the time. Was never even questioned. It should have been quite obvious." AND ... the other comment just recently asked, "Who do you think did it?"
In our newsletter article it mentions: "Investigating agents discovered three 9MM shell casings at the rise about 50' in front of Reynolds' first attempt to turn. The owner of these shells, who was present at the isolated scene, admitted to firing his weapon. This was verified by firearms testing. No further mention was found in the investigation."
This perked my curiosity even more and lots of questions below are still yet unanswered satisfactorily.
- Who fired the 9mm shells?
- Why was this semi-automatic pistol fired?
- When was it fired?
- Who was this man with the 9mm semi-automatic pistol at the top of the rise?
- Was she shot prior to vehicle burning?
- Did someone splash gasoline over the car to cover-up the crime scene damage?
