1908 Wyckliffes Outlaws Surrender

It was in the Palestine Daily Herald, dated 26 May 1908, that we found this mention of a headline that read: "Wyckliffes Surrender." It was concerning Oklahoma Outlaws with rewards out for them that gave up to the Sheriff at Muskogee.

Muskogee, Okla., May 26 (1908) -- John and Tom Qyckliffe, outlaws who had been a terror to Oklahoma officers for years, and for whom large rewards had been offered, surrendered 26 May 1908 to Sheriff Saunders. They gave bond in the sum of %5,000 each, and were guaranteed fair trials. They were wanted especially for the killing of Deputy United States Marshal Vier and for the shooting of Deputy Gilstrap. The Wyckliffes said they got tired of being on the dodge all the time. They would go to trial and try to prove that they were justified in the killing.
