Walking With Sadie
Woof! Woof! I get so excited when NW Okie comes back from her travels. It sometimes takes my breathe away. And just in time for St. Valentine's Day.
I'm glad she doesn't believe in the very ancient, possibly pre-Roman pastoral festival of Lupercalia during the Roman time, observed on February 13 through 15 to avert evil spirits and purify the city, releasing health and fertility.
Where Lupercalia subsumed Februa, an earlier-origin spring cleansing ritual held on the same date, which gives the month of February (Februarius) its name. And there, on the Ides of February (in February the ides is the 13th), a goat and a dog were sacrificed, and salt mealcakes prepared by the Vestal Virgins were burnt.
This Sadie pug is lucky to have NW Okie as her human being, because I wouldn't want to be sacrificed as in the ritual mentioned above.
Good Night! Good Luck! Woof! Woof!
