The South Texas League was a class C baseball minor league from 1903-1906. Back then it was comprised of four teas for its first three years, expanding to six teams in its final season.
In the 1903 season the presidents were: James Nolan and Max Stubenraugh. The team standings were: San Antonio Bronchos (Wade Moore, manager); Galveston Sand Crabs (E. M. Riley, manager); Houston Buffaloes (Gerald hayes, manager); Beaumont Oil Gushers (Denny Lyons, manager).
In 1904, The South texas League was comprised of the Galveston Sand Crabs, Beaumont Millionaires, Houston Lambs and San Antonio Bronchos. In 1905 we find the same four teams: Houston Buffaloes, SAn Antonio Bronchos, Galveston Sand Crabs and Beaumont. Beaumont moved to Brenham August 21, becoming an orphan team, playing in Austin and San Antonio.
In 1906, the South Texas League president was Dr. William R. Robbie. There were six teams: Houston Buffaloes, Con Harlow, manager; Austin Senators, Warren Gill, manager; Beaumont Oilers, Gerald Hayes / Sam LaRoque, managers; Galveston Sand Crabs, Wade Moore, manager; San Antonio Bronchos, Nin Alexander / Pat Paige, manager; and Lake Charles Creoles, Edward Switzer / Dick Latham / Denny Lyons, managers.
In 1906 there was a playoff Austin, 4 games, Houston 4 games; Austin was awarded the championship because Houston refused to stop using non-league players. An Eighth game was played after Austin had been awarded the title by forfeit.
