December, 1941 - Message Sent Japs By FDR
Alva, Oklahoma's newspaper, The Alva-Review Courier, reported, 7 December 1941, on the front page: "Message Sent Japs By FDR, Emperor Hirohito Will Get Note." Washington, Dec. 6 (1941) -- The state department announced that a message was being sent by President Roosevelt to Emperor Hirohito of Japan.
The department also announced that reports reaching officials here indicated a total of 125,000 Japanese troops were concentrated in Indo China, and that two large and heavily escorted Japanese convoys were steaming toward the Gulf of Siam.
The department made no explanation of its announcement regarding the presidential message to the emperor.
The reports of Japanese troop concentrations were in contradiction to the assurances presented yesterday by japan, when it justified the presence of troops in Indo China on the ground of self defense. The convoys steaming toward the Gulf of Siam were seen Saturday morning, the department said, adding that two of the convoys with a large number of vessels and escorted by war ships were seen off the southern point of Indo China.
