Three-Cent Postage Coming (1917)
Did you know that in 1917, or around that time, that the three-cent postage was making the scene around 1917? This information was also found the the 28 April 1917, newspaper, The Day Book, page 24, out of Chicago, Illinois.
The U. S. Chamber of Commerce committee recommended to government that no taxes be laid on profits and incomes of last year (1916). They asked higher postage on all first-class mail. The increase of 50 percent recommended would mean 3-cent stamps on letters that then went for 2-cents. John V. Farwell and E. D. Hulbert were Chicago members of the Committee.
