1913 - Tulsa's 1st Cross Country Tour For Autos
Have you ever heard about the Tulsa County automobile association plan for the first road trip to be taken in 1913? How did that first automobile road trip turn out that would go from Bartlesville and back to Tulsa?
In the Tulsa World, dated 8 April 1913, page five, it was reported that at least thirty cars would follow pathfinder Fred Shaw. President Cyrus Avery of the Tulsa County Automobile association, announced yesterday that the first cross-country tour of that organization, would be held the next Sunday (15 April 1913).
The route would be to Bartlesville and back, and Fred Shaw would be the official pathfinder. The cars would start front eh Hotel Tulsa at 8 o'clock Sunday morning. The party would have dinner at the Bartlesville country club and would return to Tulsa late that afternoon.
