1913 - Another Company Begins Operations
Another one hundred years ago today, this headline from The Daily Ardmoreite, dated 18 March 1913, Tuesday, was: "Another Company Begins Operations," concerning C. F. Colcord, who made fortune in Glenn Pool to begin operations in the county.
1913, Carter County, OK -- C. F. Colcord of the Colcord company of Oklahoma City, together with a number of associates, was in ardmore for several days and had secured a number of valuable leases in the proven fields in the Oil City and Keller fields, and it was understood, would begin operations at once. While in town Colcord closed a deal with one of the best known and most experienced drillers in the state of Oklahoma. This man would, it has been stated, move his rig immediately onto a part of the land leased in the Keller field and begin drilling within the week.
Mr. Colcord had made millions out of oil and was an expert in judging by the topography of a country whether or not he was in an oil section. He was the man who was associated with Bob Galbreath bring in the historic gusher in the Glenn pool and the fact that he and his associates had secured leases on large bodies of oil lands in this county, together with the arrangements which were known to have been perfected for immediate work would spell a great deal for big and continued activity in Carter County oil.
