Has Halifax Spook Moved To Oklahoma (1922)
In the Port Arthur Daily News, dated Monday, March 13, 1922, page 4, there was this headline: "Has Halifax Spook Moved to Oklahoma?"
"It is beyond any power to determine any origin or cause for the strange fires," said Dr. C. L. Rogers, Alva Physician. The Alva physician was also quoted as saying, "I appears impossible that Mrs. Smith could have set the fire herself."
Dispatches signed by a reliable newspaperman to the Enid News, declared that Mrs. Smith became hysterical after each fire had appeared. The blazes appeared, it was said in the form of blue flames and occurred two or three times while several persons were in the room.
Chemical action from medicine, strange wiles phenomena and other theories were advanced as possible causes of the reported fires.
