Duchess of Weaselskin
Let us hope that the radical followers of the 2012 presidential campaigns does nothing like what happened to Colonel Theodore Roosevelt, 14 October 1912, when Roosevelt was wounded in Milwaukee, Wisconsin by a New York assassin, because the radical did not believe in presidents running for third terms. That is just one of the stories of a hundred years ago that you can read in this week's OkieLegacy Ezine.
Also, you can read, learn about the timeline of the suffrage movement from 1848-2009. Did you know that in 1848 the first women's rights convention was held in Seneca Falls, New York. After two days of discussion and debate, 68 women and 32 men signed a Declaration of Sentiments, which outlined grievances and set the agenda for the women's rights movement. A set of twelve resolutions was adopted calling for equal treatment of women and men under the law and voting rights for women.
Would you know "The difference between a dead town and a live town is the difference between dead merchants and live merchants." In 1912, there was an a series of articles prepared for the merchant who wanted a better business. These series of articles aim was to be of service to the enterprising merchant back in 1912. It had to do with advertising and getting the word out.
If women voted alone and turned the tables on the men, the enfranchised women would speak thus to the disenfranchised men, the latter would at least respect women's hesitation, in regard to an extension of the ballot for men. Read more about that in this week's OkieLegacy Ezine, also.
