P.W. Camp 126
"I am a militaria collector.
I found at a flea market a deco-ish aluminum ashtray with a camel and a palm(?) tree, and it says NORTH AFRICA. On the underside it says P.W. Camp 126 and on the one side is engraved M/Sgt H.R.Smith, U.S.Army. Is there a listing of camps by number I just can't get at? I tend to think it was here in the states as I don't know if the German P.Ws could do sand castings in a temporary camp. I've been assuming the Sarge was watching the captured Axis guys, but if it was he who was being caged after Kasserine or later, that would be fascinating as well. I am unable to search this and would appreciate any feedback on Camp 126 (was it a tent camp in the desert) from anyone. I never saw any PW item like it before. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE. Chattanooga, TN." --
