Celebration of Thelma's Life
Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, 2pm in Benicia, CA -- "Thelma Evelyn DeGeer Lippincott was born June 4, 1904 in Freedom, Oklahoma to Renfrew I. and Josie James DeGeer. On August 17, 1930 she married Roger Swaim Lippincott (d) in Alva , Oklahoma. They later moved to 31 Simple Way in Benicia , CA and then 210 Idora Ave. in Vallejo, CA. In 1948, she and her husband founded Lippincott Supply Co., in Vallejo, CA. The past few years she resided in Napa , CA at her grandson, John Kent's home and Napa Nursing Center.
Loved ones helped her celebrate her 100th birthday, as she greeted them adorned in pink and pearls, last June at her grandson, John Kent's home. She died peacefully, as she laid down early, in her sleep on Friday, Oct. 22 at 7:25 p.m. at Napa Nursing Center.
Grandma Lippincott was predeceased by her sisters, Audrey, Freda, Opal, Ivy, Eva, and her only brother, Roy DeGeer.
Thelma is survived by her only daughter, Linda Lippincott Kent, of Oakley, CA, two Grandsons, Johnny and his wife Terry L. (Rond) Kent of Napa, CA, and Danny and his wife Danelle Kent of Oakley, CA, and his ex-wife, Terri (Cook) Fahey of Napa, CA, ten Great-Grandchildren, David Kent of Vallejo, CA, Tammy Kent Horvath and her husband Mark Horvath, Lindsay, Kate-lynn, Kelly, Bradley and Emily Kent all of Napa, CA, Vince Walker and Sabrina Kent of Oakley, CA, Brittany Evelyn Kent (deceased), and one Great-Great-Grand-daughter, Kelsey Evelyn Horvath of Napa, CA. Thelma is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
She was a graduate of Alva High School and initiated into Tri Sigma Sorority in 1922. On July 26, 1929 she graduated from Northwestern State Teachers College, now known as Northwestern Oklahoma State University , in Alva Oklahoma. She taught st grade in Alva, Inid and Oilton, Oklahoma and Benicia, CA . Flower arranging was her passion and she was one of the founders of the Shibui Flower Arrangers Guild of Vallejo, CA. Thelma loved doing crafts and was always helping at Community Congregational United Church of Christ in Benicia, CA with their annual Holiday House Bazaar. Playing Bridge was another love until the age of 99. She played and belonged to several Bridge clubs in Vallejo and Napa.
A Celebration of Thelma's Life took place on Thursday, October 28th at 2:00 p.m. at Community Congregational United Church of Christ at 1305 West 2 nd St , Benicia , CA 94510. www.cccucc.org (707)745-0674.
