Duchess Snowy Domain
Is it only a few weeks left of 2009? How times flies, huh! Even the wildlife of the San Juans are proclaiming it so!
The photo on the left was taken of a stand-off with a deer and Duchess the Pug thought she could encourage to leave the bird feeder alone. Neither was willing to back down! It was taken yesterday (Dec. 13, 2009), in the afternoon. I did manage to persuade Duchess to forego the confrontation with the deer, and back on the patio and eventually back inside the house.
The photo on the right was taken the same day showing an older deer relaxing up on the slope while a younger deer was nosing for fallen birdseed below, in our backyard.
Last Monday and Tuesday, as some of you might know, we accumulated 22-inches of that white powdery, fine snow here in the San Juans of SW Colorado. You can view the December 2009 Snow photos over at NW Okie's Facebook site
The sun came out Wednesday through Friday and compacted the 22 inches of snow down to about 17 inches before the next front came through on Saturday and lasted through Sunday, dropping another 6 inches at our place North of Bayfield and a foot of snow at Vallecito Reservoir in SW Colorado. That is what our reader from Weaselskin Creek reports, "We've had at least 12 inches of new snow today (Dec. 13, 2009). It was fine and powdery earlier today, but seems to have picked up a little more weight and moisture this afternoon."
Purgatory, Telluride and Wolf Creek Ski Resorts will be loving this snow for the holidays.
The Best of the Holidays to All!
