NWOSU's Old Men's Dorm
Nola says, "I attended 2nd and 3rd grades at Horace Mann (school years '48-'49 and '49-'50). The men's dorm was just west of the grade school and the students sometimes walked to and from classes across the grounds of the school.
We sometimes saw the housemother out walking with her little dog, a pekinese named "Chinky," and she would stop and let us kids on the playground pet and make over him. One day when I got home from school I was surprised to find "Chinky" at my house.
The housemother had contacted my mother and asked permission to give me the dog. She had apparently decided the dorm was not a good place for him or maybe she just found it problematic to take care of him there. Maybe she just thought he'd be happier with a family and kids to play with. Whatever her reason, I was certainly pleased to have "Chinky," and enjoyed him very much.
He puts in an appearance in some of the pictures I have from childhood days. I doubt that I could even remember that dorm being there if not for my experience with my good friend, 'Chinky'."
