Perry, OK Gas Prices & Christmas Village
Roys says, "Incidentally, gasoline prices went back up to $1.63.9 for gasohol, $1.68.9 for regular unleaded (except for the 'full-service' Sinclair at $1.73.9) per gallon over these Thanksgiving holidays.
Our church will begin the Christmas Village presentation the following Thursday for 4 evenings and I should have my stuff set up for that by a day or two before the performances. On those evenings, from 6 to 8:30pm, there will be performances every thirty minutes (local bands, various church and public school choirs, young folks presenting Christmas skits, our bell choir (and perhaps the bell choir from the Lutheran Church), and on the final (Sunday) night, our choir will perform its Christmas Cantata (I'm part of a 'barbershop quartet' in a portion of this one).
I plan to be using three video cameras to capture all of the performances, and will later edit the videos for about a six hour DVD like I created last year. Year before last, I didn't realize the importance of our Christmas Village presentation, and didn't attend the first night, and didn't record (on video) all the happenings during the subsequent nights. I don't want that to happen again.
The village 'scene' is just about finished already. We've created a typical 'New England" village scene, complete with six or eight shops plus a 'church front' at the stage area of our 'big room' that's just to the west of our main church building, and have already moved our cantata rehearsals to the stage area there so that we can rehearse using that room's sound system and microphones, and get used to the 'feel' of the room. There will be free hot chocolate or cider and cookies served at the 'soda shoppe', the general store will receive donated canned goods and other packaged foods to be passed out to families in need by the Kaw Street Chapel and by "Operation Blessing".
The 'Toy Shop' will receive new toys and clothing which will also be distributed by Operation Blessing (a locally operated organization that distributes used clothing and appliances to the folks in need), free personal photos, and once again our barber shop will give free haircuts to all the folks who want them. This is part of our gift to the community.
About a week later, we'll once again present our "Living Nativity Scene" in front of the east side of the church. The past few years, the local police and sheriff's deputies have provided security and even blocked off the street in front when the crowds became too large (and traffic became hazardous). The town has already been decorating for the holidays (many Christmas lights are already being displayed) and once again, the city will be offering discounted utilities for everyone who has lighted displays at the homes and/or businesses.
It's a grand display showing 'the reason for the season' and of course Santa will come to town riding our specially decorated fire truck during the Christmas parade around the square, and will enter the Santa-clause house on the north side of the square so that the kids can visit, tell him what they want, and have their pictures taken with 'Jolly Saint Nick" himself." -- Roy in Perry, OK
