Smoky the Bear Story...
"In 1950 a cousin of ours, Elliott C. Barker was involved in the chain of events that resulted in a bear cub that was burned in a forest fire, rescued by a Forest Ranger and eventually wound up the The National Zoo in Washington -- revered for many years as Smoky the Bear. These article appeared in this month's Smithsonian Magazine. Our cousin is NOT mentioned by name -- only by title: New Mexico Director of State Game and Fish. He had an illustrious career and was one of the founders of The National Wildlife Federation." -- Bill - 2nd Article - Smoky1
