1949 - AHS Bugettes, Alva, OK...

Remember the Pep Clubs of your high school days? AND... the uniforms we wore? This NW Okie's "Bugette Days" had similar uniforms to the ones pictured here, BUT... the jacket was switched to a black, wool blazer-type in the mid-1960's. We did wear the saddle-oxford shoes for awhile. Not sure when they did away with the "Pep Club" and uniforms, but it was after my time at AHS (Class of `66).

Back in May, 1949 we find that the "Finest Pep Club In State" resided in Alva, Oklahoma. If you turn to page 5, Sec. 2, of the Alva (Okla) Review-Courier, dated Wednesday, May 25, 1949, you might read and see a photo of the "Classy Bugettes," a girls pep club at Alva high school. It stated in the newspaper that it was the real generating power of enthusiasm behind the Goldbugs very successful athletic campaigns. The officers of the pep club, sponsored by Marguerite Elliott, in '49 were Harlene Lord, president; Marvel Maxwell, vice-president; Nancy McGinley, secretary; Joan Scribner, treasurer, and Dorothy Ballard, representative to the student council. The yell leaders in the photo, in front, from left to right are: Earlene Heaton, Emma Jean Fullerton, Katie Ellen Paul and Barbara Turner.   |  View or Add Comments (0 Comments)   |   Receive updates ( subscribers)  |   Unsubscribe
