Female Bootlegger... "John Abernathy Again Demonstrates Fearlessness By Arresting Woman."
Lawton, Okla., Aug. 31, 1905 -- "United States marshal Jno Abernathy, the wolf catcher who hunted in the Kiowa-Comanche Indian pasture reservation with the president in April, today achieved the distinction of having arrested the second female bootlegger in the history of the new country.
Mary Burtons home in the eastern suburbs of the city has been a nerost (sic) for Comanche Indians for some time. Abernathy began watching it recently and yesterday discovered the woman dealing out liquor to the Indians. She was arrested and will be held to await action of the federal grand jury."
