Normal Schools

"I stumbled on your site, and the discussion of 'Normal Schools'. My grandfather left Arkansas after the Civil War and went to Texas and eventually to Oklahoma for a short period of time. At some time he went to Normal school and taught school . We don't know where or when. Do you have any idea how I can go about researching this? He was married in Texas so it is possible he went to school there soon after leaving Arkansas.
