SW Colorado Board of Directors (BOD)
Since waltzing across Texas, Oklahoma and back to the cool climate of southwest Colorado, we have been spending some much needed time with our horses. We have haltered our 3-year-old paint (Doquoti) and Maggie (yearling) and hitching them to the hitching post and leading them around the corral and pasture.
This last Thursday we even caught our Pug horse trying to lead Maggie by the lead rope. Maggie stood there calmly watching intently as this little, black Pug (Sadie) helped out with the morning chores. Meanwhile... Nugget is busy sucking up the scattered
oats/barley/bran left from the early morning feeding. August 2006 Horses. The photo to the left shows our Southwest Board of Directors (BOD), from left to right: Sadie, Nugget and Doquoti.
We have had a few requests in our OkieLegacy Guestbook. Maybe someone out there might have some information and make another connection.
- Jackie Wayman - EMAIL: shammahsbeanfield@htcomp.net - Jack is looking for a mental institution existing around 1900-1910 where his great-grandmother was sent and left to die. He vaguely remembers family talking about Ft.Sill and/or Supply. We are pretty sure that he is referring to Ft. Supply, but did Ft. Sill also have a mental hospital?
- Richard Hovis - EMAIL: rhovis73103@yahoo.com - Richard is looking for location of Artesian well in the northwestern area. We believe that artesian well is the one located just west of the Great Salt Plains, on the south side of the state highway (64) that runs East of Alva, Oklahoma.
Well! As you can probably tell, we did not make it back to Freedom, Oklahoma this weekend for
Freedom's Biggest Open Rodeo & Old Cowhand Reunion that started this Thursday, August 17, 2006 and runs through Saturday, August 19, 2006. Wish we could be there to get some photographs of the Old Cowhand, Freedom's Main Street and the crowds that tend to repopulate and fill this unique old west styled community on Main Street for their afternoon, staged shootout & bank robbery, which follows the Old Cowhand Reunion at noon in the Town Park with bar-b-que fixings. Saturday evening tops off the day at the Rodeo grounds North of Freedom, putting the finishing touches on the last three days of Freedom's Biggest Open Rodeo & Cowhand Reunion for another year. If anyone out there attending these festivities has a digital camera, we would love to have a copy of your photos to share in next weeks OkieLegacy Ezine & Tabloid. We will even give you your own "by-line."
