Looking back through history to 1884 we found political parties have gone through many changes for both parties, Democrats and Republicans. Today the Democrats & Republican parties were complete opposites of what they were back in 1884.

It was in The Inter Ocean, out of Chicago, Illinois, dated 23 January 1884, Wednesday, on page 9, that this interesting articled appeared concerning more of "Bourbon Ways." Another Republican murdered in Virginia, as written by a special correspondence of The Inter Ocean.

Walking With Sweet Silly Sadie

As NW Okie says this week, "Today the Democrats & Republicans are opposite of what they were in 1884. In Virginia they had the "Virginia Bourbons," the Readjusters" and the "Mahone Mahoneites." The Readjusters were formed into the Republicans of Virginia. The Republicans were the complete opposite of what they have become in the 21st century, though.

Have you heard the story of an underground fire raging in Highland county, Virginia, December, 1884? A Strange Phenomena in 1884, that is for sure. We found this news article in the Concordia Blade-Empire, Concordia, Kansas, dated 27 December 1884, Saturday, page 65: "A Strange Phenomena." It is what an eye-witness had to say about the underground fires that were raging in Highland county, Virginia, near Monterey Court House.
