NW Okie's Journey

Anyone remember their folks or grandparents speaking about the "Sad Sacks Cadet Band" that played in at the "Cadet Club," in Alva, Oklahoma, March 14, 1944? Was the "Cadet Club" downtown Alva above one of the stores?

We have some photos from Pat Uhlig, whose father had taken while he was in training at the Army Air Corps in Alva, Oklahoma during 1944. Pat would love to have feedback or information as to the following 1944 photographs.

Pat Uhlig also sent names of those Sad Sacks Cadet band that were in the 92nd CTD Squadron & Dance Band from 1944. This dance band played in Alva, Oklahoma at the Cadet Club, March 14, 1944. You can click on the images to view the larger pictures.

Pat's Dad was from Iowa and his training was at Alva, Oklahoma, though he ended up with the 504th PIR occupation forces in Berlin. Pat has several photos of his time at Alva, including a complete picture of his squadron e Flt I-92 CTD with names. Pat also thought there would be people who would like to see them. Pat said, "I'm working on my family tree and always delighted when I can acquire new info or photos, so wanted to share what I have. Now my generation is the 'older' one."

Here is the names of those listed in the above photos, left to right, front row: Nelson, Bidwell, Huntress, Anderson, Riedeman; Back row: Peters, Pierce, Abrams, McCormick, Wallen, Szabo (Dr.); Piano: Mustion. In one of the photographs Pat made a note that Riedeman and Szabo appear to be cut off in the photo.
