NW Okie's Journey

Did you know that the "Founding Fathers" of the U.S. (especially Benjamin Franklin) were deeply influenced by the Iroquois Confederacy (also known as the Six Nations) and the Great Law of Peace when they were crafting the U. S. Constitution?

They never taught us this information in our schools. I do not recall any of my teachers contributing that information about the Iroquois Confederacy of Nations contributing to our United States Constitution. Why NOT? How sad it is that the history books left out this important history of the formation of our U. S. Constitution.

The Iroquois were not even a tribe in a singular sense, but a confederation of several different tribal nations that included the Seneca, Oneida, Onondaga, Mohawk, Cayuga and Tuscarora (who didn't become part of the union until the early 1700's and were originally from what is now North Carolina).

You can read more about the Iroquois confederation in this week's OkieLegacy Ezine/Tabloid.

On another note, the digital photo image above, left, was taken 4 December 2014, at Vallecito Lake, looking East across the lake from county road 501. As you can see we have not had much snow accumulation. Most of the snow has fallen, accumulated at the altitudes higher than our 8000 feet. This week is expected to be a dry, warm week with temperatures in the low-50s. Last Friday they did some avalanche control between Pagosa Springs and Wolf Creek Pass.

Good Night & Good Luck!
