While I continue researching my grandpa's baseball legacy between the years of 1905 to 1909, I have found the following at Bill McGill Minor League Stats:

  • 1905, at age of 25, Bill McGill played with the Minneapolis, Kansas team in the Kansas State League (KSSL).
  • In 1906-07, Bill McGill, at age 26 and 27 played for the South Texas league, for the Austin Senators. In 1908 the Austin Senators (STL) team broke up its winning combination of the past years (1906 and 1907), and floundered in the cellar. Grandpa Bill McGill, was one of those winning combination of players in the South Texas League, with the Austin Senators during 1906-07.
  • In 1908, grandpa played with two teams, one of those being Enid and the other Guthrie, while he was still under contract with the Austin Senators.
  • In 1909, McGill at age 29 years shows up again playing for the Guthrie, Western Association league.
This one site showed grandpa McGill and the teams he played for and the year he played. They were as follows:
  • 1905, Minneapolis Minnies, Kansas State League, 1 season
  • 1906, Austin Senators, South Texas League, 3 seasons
  • 1907, Leavenworth Convicts, Western Association, 3 seasons
  • 1907, Austin Senators, Texas League, 3 seasons
  • 1907, St. Louis Browns, American League, MLB, SLB 1 season
  • 1908, Enid Railroaders, Western Association, 3 seasons
  • 1908, Austin Senators, Texas league, 3 seasons
  • 1909, Guthrie Senators, WEstern Association, 3 seasons
POW Camp of Alva

We had an inquiry this weekend concerning a German POW who was at the Alva camp. Gefriter (Corporal) Rudi Freitag, 8-WG-8957. Don Brett,of Sarasota, Florida, had recently came into possession of a handwritten letter dated September 30, 1944, from Rudi Freitag to Frau Hilde Freitag, Sarrstrasse 44, Dessau, Germany. Don Brett had come across our OkieLegacy write-ups on the POW Camp of Alva, which provided a great deal of relevant information. Don was wondering if there are any records available that might identify Freitag's date of capture and unit? I forwarded a copy of the email to someone at the Cherokee Strip Museum in Alva, Oklahoma to see if they could help Brett with his inquiry. If you also know the answer or where to get more information, please leave a comments here or email me. Thanks!
