William Adams Inquiry

Another Vol. IV issue was the following injury concerning William O. Adams born in 1890, married Bertie Belle McDougal, and died in 1922, sent to us by Laura (angel2@humboldt1.com).

Laura said, "Looking for information on William Adams. Middle name may be O. Born in 1890 married Bertie Belle McDougal and died in 1922. He is my great-grandfather and we are having difficulties finding history on his family. We think he was born in Memphis, TN and died in Hatfield, Arkansas, Polk County. We know he had a son Daniel Otto Adams, who was born in Oklahoma in 1912 (this would be my grandfather) there were other children, Uncle T, Aunt Ruby, and others. But I don't know the names.

"My father related a story told to him by his father many years ago. William worked for a man at a ranch/farm. He wanted to go to a dance and needed to borrow a horse to go. The man he worked for said no. William really wanted to go, so after his boss went to bed he took a horse and went anyway. He was found out and they had a fight. It seems William struck the man and thought he killed him, so he ran and dropped out of sight. My father says the family found out later that the man had lived and so William was not a murderer after all, but my dad isn't sure if the truth was found out before he married, after he married, or even while he was living.

"He died young at 32 years old. This would explain the lack of photos or other information found on him. He hasn't made it easy for us. Also, one person said that his middle name started with an 'O'. This makes me ask 'Was it Otto?' His son Daniel had the middle name Otto. So it bears searching out. Berti (Birdie) was born 11/26/1889 in Texas and passed away 11/7/1940 and is buried in Tushka, Oklahoma. Her parents were Jeff McDougal and Mary (Molly) Fox. His Wife: BIRDIE MCDOUGAL, on her death certificate it states that she died November 7, 1940 and was 42 years old. Many people show her born in 1889. Her husband at the time of her death (Claud Tigert says he is 56 years old).

"I have information from my father who says that in fact, Claud Howard Tigert was born 3/17/1884 and died 4/27/1978. My information also states that she was born in Texas on November 26th. William (her first husband) was born in 1890 in Memphis, TN. Also I've since learned that there was a child from the union of Birdie and Claud who is Eloyse Bernice Tigert birth unknown. But she married Tigert after 1922 when William dies, so the child was born between 1922 and 1940."   |  View or Add Comments (0 Comments)   |   Receive updates ( subscribers)  |   Unsubscribe
