Oklahoma Snow Rolls

"I have no idea who took these photos. They are legit?there was a story on the TV-9/Daily Oklahoman web page this week about the phenomenon, though I?m not sure if the article is archived or not. It may be. According to the story on the website, these things formed during the time church started last Sunday and the time it was over (about noon, I suppose), with just a very light breeze. I don?t remember the particular requirements, but these things are fairly rare? something about very wet snow, light wind, temp right at 32 degrees and the snow just at the melting point.

I got out last Saturday afternoon and took a bunch of photos, too?all of them in/near a small wooded area immediately south of the Freedom Rodeo grounds. You?re welcome to use any of them for the ?Legacy? this weekend if you have room. NW Oklahoma Snow Photos. I think I have them all saved in a ?set? (click on the icon on the right side of the page) dated 1.20.2007.

Snow is mostly melted as of this evening, all except the remains of the layer of ice that was beneath all of it?the part that stays in the shade most of the day will re-freeze tonight and still be something to contend with in the morning.

Gas in Alva this afternoon was $1.999 at Garnett?s Conoco. When I was in Enid on Tuesday afternoon, I found it selling for $1.759. Nowadays, gas in Alva costs about TWENTY CENTS A GALLON higher than in Enid or Oklahoma City.

Speaking of Garnett?s, Dub Garnett died yesterday afternoon. Services are pending?I?ve not yet read any details of the service. The Alva Review-Courier mentioned diabetes and dialysis as something Mr. Garnett was dealing with in recent months. I heard that he?d lost a lot of weight recently, in anticipation of a kidney transplant. He was only 61." -- Rod Murrow   |  View or Add Comments (0 Comments)   |   Receive updates ( subscribers)  |   Unsubscribe
