NW Okie's Journey

We are starting to get back into the swing of things here, finally after getting Houston apartment fixed for living while we are down in Southern part of Texas. Thanks for your patience and understanding for the delay of last week's publication.

In going through old newspapers online at the National Archives we found mention of a 1914 Guthrie, Oklahoma "Rest Room" established by the Women's Auxiliary and a room on the first floor of the Guthrie City Hall donated by the business men of Guthrie for the comfort, convenience and help of the visitors from the farming communities and the surrounding towns.

But Guthrie was not the first "Rest Room" in Oklahoma. A small rural town in Northwest Oklahoma was established by business men of Alva, in Woods county, Oklahoma for train travelers, country folks and others who came to town to shop and other business before returning for the long journey home.
