Walking With Sadie

Woof! Woof! It is the infamous Sweet Sadie Pug with you again this week. The snow has been melting fast around these southwest Colorado parts with the 50 degree, sunny weather we have been experiencing in our neck of the woods. Hope there is some for NW Okie when she arrives the latter half of this week.

Boy howdy! North central Oklahoma has been getting a lot of 4.3 and 4.0 earthquakes last week. The 4.3 earthquake that hit a few miles ENE of Cherokee, Alfalfa county, Oklahoma last week shook things up for a few residents, especially, the county courthouse in Cherokee. We hear that new cracks appeared in the courthouse walls.

Some say the fracking and waste water disposal being injected in to the ground is the cause. If you drive out around that area of Alfalfa county, in Northwest Oklahoma, you can not help but see all the drilling for oil and gas going on around there.

We read where a SandRidge Energy injection well has been ordered shut down because of numerous earthquakes near the well in north-central Oklahoma. Injection wells, for those unfamiliar with them, are used to dispose of wastewater produced from oil and gas wells. There have been several studies linking injection wells and earthquakes. Did you know there are about 3,200 active injection wells in the state of Oklahoma? In 2013, they moved about 1.1 billion barrels of wastewater. SandRidge was operating with a permit that said the well would be shut down if there was any seismic activity.

NW Okie wanted me to let you know that we have added a weather cam for Alva, Oklahoma (AlvaOK) on OkieLegacy Weather Cam that you can view on the newsletter page or at this link above.

Good Night! Good Luck! Woof! Woof!
