100 Years Ago, 4 November 1914, Wednesday

One hundred years ago today, 4 November, in 1914, you might have read the following headlines in The Breckenridge News, located in Cloverport, Kentucky: "Democracy And Wilson Win," "Large Order Placed For Ties In Breckenridge By Ohio Valley Tie Co.," "Barbed Wire Factories Running To Capacity To Supply War Demand," and "Our Next U.S. Senator, J. S. W. Beckham."

As to the "Democracy And Wilson Win," there was a sweeping victory for the Democrats as Breckenridge county falls into line along with land slide. Democrats carry Louisville by 10,000 to 12,000. The State gives 40,000 to 50,000.

Nineteen precincts in Breckenridge county gave Beckham 858; Willson, 798; Johnson, 858; Ball, 822. The two missing precincts, Big Spring and Hudsonville, will give the Republicans 25 majority, making the Democratic majority in the county 25 to 35.
