George "Poppy" Bush (1924-)

George Bush was born June 12, 1924, Milton, Massachusetts, to Dorothy Walker Bush (daughter of a wealthy investor) and Prescott Sheldon Bush (a banker and later Republican US senator from Connecticut). In 1945 he married Barbara Pierce and then matriculated at Yale University, where he majored in economics, and was captain of the baseball team, graduating with Phi Beta Kappa honors in 1948.

After Yale George "Poppy" Bush went to work for Dresser Industries in the West Texas oilfields. Two years later Bush and a partner established the Bush-Overby Development Company to trade oil leases and royalties. In 1954, Bush became president of the Zapata Offshore Company, developing new oil-drilling equipment. Within a decade Bush had amassed about $2-million and began dabbling in local Republican politics in Houston, Texas. Bush was defeated when he ran for the US Senate in 1964. Bush became the first Republican to represent Houston in the US House of Representatives in 1966. Bush was known as one of the new breed of centrist Republicans in the modern South. He voted for the 1968 Civil Rights Act despite its unpopularity with his constituents.

In 1972, Bush was head of the Republican National Committee by President Richard Nixon. Bush traveled the country for 20 months defending Nixon and the GOP against the widening Watergate scandal. Bush urged Nixon to step down on August 7, 1974, and Nixon announced his resignation the next day. Gerald Ford was chosen over New York governor Nelson Rockefeller and Bush for the vice-presidency. Bush headed over to Beijing to head the US Liaison Office.

President Ford, in December, 1975, recalled Bush to Washington to take over the CIA office. That was also a time when the CIA was troubled by accusations of assassination plots, abuses of power. Bush resigned from the CIA after Jimmy Carter became president in 1976. George Bush began his quest for the 1980 Republican presidential nomination. Bush's attacks on Ronald Reagan's ultraconservatism failed to attract a majority of Republican voters. After losing the Texas primary Bush withdrew from the race and asked his delegates to support Reagan. The Republican convention in July conferred on George Bush the vice-presidential nomination after failing to persuaded Gerald Ford to accept that position.

On p. 5 of the JFK - John Armstrong Collection, there is mention of George Bush, Skull & Bones and the JFK assassination. It was in Rodney Stich's book Defrauding America, Stich tells of a deep-cover CIA officer assigned to a counter-intelligence unit, code-named Pegasus. This unit had tape recordings of plans to assassinate Kennedy from a tap on the phone of J. Edgar Hoover. Could George Bush be involved in the JFK assassination?

George Bush, in 1963, was living in Houston, Texas, carrying out his duties as president of the Zapata Offshore Oil Company. Bush denied the existence of the note sent by the FBI's J. Edgar Hoover to Mr. George Bush of the CIA. The CIA said they never commented on employment questions, but later relented and said yes, a George Bush was mentioned in the note sent by Hoover. But ... that it was another George Bush. Reporters tracked down the other George Bush and discovered that he was just a lowly clerk who had shuffled papers for the CIA for about six months. That George Bush never received any inter-agency messages from anybody at the FBI, let alone the Queen Mary.

Also, the CIA code word for Bay of Pigs was Operation Zapata and the two of the support vessels were named Barbara and Houston. Was it coincidental?

Did Bush have a company duty to deny being in the CIA. It was a secret organization, and no one ever admits to being a member. As reported in the Armstrong Collection, the truth is that Bush had been a top CIA official since before the 1961 invasion of Cuba, working with Felix Rodriguez. Bush may deny his actual role in the CIA in 1959, but there are records in the Bay of Pigs Invasion of Cuba that exposes Bush's role.

This is most interesting about Haldeman and Nixon discussing June 23, 1972, on the Watergate tapes, referred to in the media as the smoking gun conversation. Haldeman and Nixon were worried that the investigation would expose their connection to the Bay of Pigs thing. In Haldeman's book The Ends of Power he reveals that Nixon always used code words when talking about the 1963 murder of JFK. Haldeman told of how Nixon would always refer to the assassination as the Bay of Pigs.

You should read the entire report, and then you can be the judge!

George Bush & Zapata Petroleum

This is concerning Mr. George Bush, veteran CIA operative, letting the CIA use Zapata Petroleum, which Bush founded six years earlier ... Veteran CIA operatives in the war against Castro say Bush not only let the CIA us Zapata as a front for running some of its operations, but assert that Bush personally served as a conduit through which the Agency disbursed money for contracted services.

This was a classical segue for many business people in 1950s and early 1960s who had wet their feet spying for the CIA behind the Iron Curtain. The agency recruited scores of conservative business people to volunteer their companies as fronts for hiding the impending invasion against Fidel Castro's Cuba. It has been written, reported that George Bush worked for the agency during this period, having dirty hands, doing the company's bidding. This is on p. 25, of the following link at John Armstrong's Collection at Baylor.   |  View or Add Comments (0 Comments)   |   Receive updates ( subscribers)  |   Unsubscribe
