St. Nicholas Hotel

Here is another 2002 article that The OkieLegacy Ezine featured in in Vol. IV, concerning the St. Nicholas Hotel, located one-half blocks north of the northwest corner of the Alva, Oklahoma downtown square.

"The most elite hotel in Alva was the St. Nicholas located 1-½ blocks north of the present day Central National Bank at 207 college (6th St.). This hotel housed most of the traveling salesmen and where the visiting dignitaries were also housed. The St. Nicholas Hotel was the most elaborately decorated hotel in town. It was considered The Hotel."

The day I took this photo (Monday, April 22, 2002) I talked to one of the residents of this now apartment building, while he showed me the name of the hotel (St. Nicholas) carved into the concrete sidewalk at the entrance leading up to the porch. It was For Sale back in 2002 (not sure what the the status is now (2013). And like most of the old buildings, it has weathered many storms of the past and has seen better days. It was once known as Jerry's Apartments.   |  View or Add Comments (0 Comments)   |   Receive updates ( subscribers)  |   Unsubscribe
