NW Okie's Corner

We are still doing Winter-cleaning of our archives and extracting some items to add to our "OkieLegacy" database. This week we bring you some interesting pictures of McGill Bros Furniture, that was located on Barnes Avenue, 600 block (where Smith dentistry is today), south side of the street, and taken around 1910-1911.

About two doors west from the McGill Bros. Furniture Store on Barnes Avenue in the 600 block, south side of the street, there shows a partial glimpse of the Majestic Theatre and McGill Bros. furniture sandwiched between Renfro-Howerton Furniture & Undertaking Store.

This next photograph shows a 1897 panoramic view of downtown Alva, Oklahoma. The top image is the east side of the square showing the Runnymede hotel on the left and the grocery, nickel's and the feed barn moving to the right. Perhaps other northwest oklahomans can help identify the rest of the views of Alva's downtown square of 1897.

1950's Presbyterian Christmas Choir

Remember this old photograph of the presbyterian Christmas Choir, accompanist was Mrs. Dunn, and taken sometime during the 1950's.

Fourth Row: far left, Sarah (Long) Balenti; ?; ?; ?.

Fifth & Sixth Rows: small blond, Joan Simon; Nancy Roepke; Dean Oshel; Jean Melton; Bruce Dunn (looking down to his left); the middle boy of the three boys above Bruce is the oldest James Erskine boy.

Seventh Row: left, ?; 2nd from left, Dorthy McGill; 3rd from left, Connie McGill; Monet Monfort; ?; ?.

Bottom Row: 1st left, ?; 2nd left, Fritz Snipple; 3rd left, youngest (John) Erskine; Karen Johnson (deceased); MaryAnne Roepke; Blake Dunn; ?; ?.

Mary Ann Roepke Bachus says, "The blond in the front row with the marvelous hairdo and the little girl between John Erskine and me is Karen Johnson (now deceased). Bruce Dunn had a little brother, Blake, who was my age and I think that must be him next to me. Don't know who the other two little girls are."
