NW Okie's Corner

This week in our old newspaper research and YouTube, we found some interesting articles and videos to share with you.

One of those is about a William B. Magill (45 years of age) and his second wife, Lola Taylor (29 years of age), who had died in Mt. Vernon, Ohio in an alleged murder, suicide incident. I know of no connection to my McGill ancestors, though. But do know the Magill and McGill are surnames have been found with both spellings in my ancestry family tree.

Don't you just love the old chase scenes of the old silent films? This is really to bring back the old days and a smile to your face! Nothing more.

This week we had an inquiry asking for information concerning the 1923 Wrought Iron Range and a possible photo of it. Does anyone out there have any more information than what I have found in the following links below?

  1. On another note, I found some links to a Home Comfort Range.
  2. Here is another link to a Home Comfort Range Cookbook [microfilm] (1894)
  3. This is the page where I have my scanned copy of the 1934 Home Comfort Cookbook. There are two pdf files of the entire book, each about 33mb.
We also had an inquiry about a possible ghost town in Cimarron County, out in the very tip of the panhandle of Oklahoma. Has anyone ever run across the town of Bertrand, Cimarron county, Oklahoma? The person inquiring about the town had a great uncle, George Detamore, and his wife, Nettie Gamel, living there around 1914.
