Bethel Lee Myers Obit

Another Northwest Oklahoman pioneer passed away last week with services held for Bethel Lee Myers (the husband of Marthesia (MARTY) Myers of Cherokee; a Knabe from Freedom or rather Lookout, west of Freedom; and now lives in Cherokee, Oklahoma). Services were held at the Burlington Riverside Church of Christ at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 with Jeff Keele and Lanny Jobe officiating.

Bethel requested cremation, and a private family burial will be held at a later date. Bethel was born on May 23, 1926 to Harry Myers and Cleta Yates Myers on the family farm east of Hardtner, Kansas and passed from this life on August 26, 2012 at his home in Cherokee. He attended Hardtner schools and was baptized at the Methodist Church in Hardtner. He entered the U.S. Army at the age of eighteen and was stationed at Camp Hood, Texas for basic training. He was then sent overseas to serve with the 3rd Army 631st Battalion in France. After the war he married Marthesia Knabe on January 29, 1947. They lived in California and Alva before moving to Cherokee in 1957. Bethel worked for Wood Appleman Company before buying the home appliance store in Cherokee. He and Marthesia also operated Alley Dry Cleaners, B & M Laundry and B & M Service. He was a charter member of the Salty Sams Club, a member of the VFW Post #2847 and was also a retired fireman. Bethel also served as a volunteer at the Senior Citizens Site.

He leaves to mourn his wife, Marthesia; three sons and their wives, Monty and Dottie Myers of Fresno, California, Jack Myers of Cherokee and Randy and Mary Myers of Las Vegas, Nevada; daughter-in-law, Judy Myers of Elk City; three grand children, Kimmy Myers Dotterer and her husband, Tim of Norman, Amber Beth Myers Smith and her husband, Aaron of Ponca City and Greg Myers of Corpus Christie, Texas; three great grandchildren, Tate Christopher Davis and Nickson James Davis and Tyler Dotterer; five step grandchildren, John Greggs and wife, Ning of Fresno, California, David Rapp and wife, Jamie of Fresno, California, Stephanie Strasner and husband, Jarod, Wade Dotterer and wife, Sarah; fourteen step great grandchildren, Jimmy Greggs, Timothy Greggs, Brittney Greggs, Trinity Jordan and David Ray Rapp, Kayla Rapp and Addison Rapp, Ivan Bousana, all of Fresno, California, Skylar Strasner, Shirree Strasner and Trent Strasner of Norman; two sisters, Hazel Case of Alva and Viriginia Hicks of Dallas, Texas; one brother, John Myers and wife, Joan of Kiowa, Kansas; special friends, Dennis Pierson and Carolyn Green.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Virgil, Forest and Donald Myers; one daughter-in-law, Trina Myers and granddaughter, Shay Lee Myers.   |  View or Add Comments (0 Comments)   |   Receive updates ( subscribers)  |   Unsubscribe
