Duchess' Wildlife Domain

First of all, I would like to thank my friend and neighbor, Duchess, for letting me take over domain this week. The last week's temperatures around here ranged in the mid-forties as us bucks, deers and elk grazed in this San Juan valley and mountains. Four to five elk were spotted crossing the county road 501, around the curve, near the dam at Vallecito Lake yesterday evening. NW Okie had to slow to a stop to watch and keep from running into to this small herd in the evening hours. It was too dark to snap a photo, though.

As this second week of January 2010 begins, we are expecting late afternoon and evening snows in this neck of the woods in southwest Colorado. They, the weather from Albuquerque, New Mexico, tell us that most of the week will be filled with rain turning into evening snows and ending around Friday or Saturday.

NW Okie wanted me to ask you if you remembered the businesses in Alva, Oklahoma during the mid-thirties, especially, 1937-1938? Do you remember when they referred to Oklahoma Blvd. as Normal Street? Did any of your ancestors attend Northwestern State Teachers College in 1937-1938?

We have a couple of linked PDF files for those family genealogists who are looking for evidence of their kin during that time period. You can find for downloadable PDF files in the articles below. There is also a Student and Faculty Directory of the 1937-38 time period.

Roy of Perry, Oklahoma says on 16 January 2010, "It's been foggy for three nights in a row but clears up in the daytime. The gas prices have dropped a couple of cents since it warmed back up. The price at our local downtown Conoco here in Perry, Oklahoma has been $2.56.9 for the past three days now."

Have a Great week and watch for slick, snowy patches along the roadways as you travel to and from your destinations.
