The Oklahoman, dated Nov. 1, 1908, pg. 15, headlines: Normal Professor Is Gathering Many Alaska Specimens

Alva, Okla., Oct. 31, 1908 -- "That the Northwestern State Normal at Alva will have one of the best collections of animal and bird species from the northwest country is the belief of members of the normal faculty. G. W. Stevens, a member of the faculty, is now in Alaska engaged in the work of gathering specimens. In a letter to Prof. H. H. Colvin he says:

"We have collected over 50 big game animals and over 150 bird specimens. The variety that I am trying to get keeps me so busy that it is rather a business trip than a hunt. One Season is so short that one must make each hunting trip as short as possible so as to get on track of some other kind of game. I have specimens of sheep, goats, moose, black bear, brown bear, caribou, seals, sea lions, and several species of mammals."
