Log Cabin Progress - Waynoka, OK...

The log cabin has been beautifully restored and furnished. Some of the furnishings belonged to neighbors of Joseph and Wealthy Ann Barnett. We have artifacts from the Barnett family as well. Thank you, Okie Legacy!

Finding out about the log cabin was how I found Oakie Legacy. I am a descendent of Wealthy Ann Barnett and was doing some genealogy research the summer the cabin was dedicated. I haven't made it to Waynoka to see it yet but plan to some day.

As a gg grandson of Joseph and Wealthy Ann Brown Barnett, you can imagine how pleased I am to see those logs getting off the ground. One of the interesting things is that there just weren't any log cabins in that part of the country. There were almost only cottonwood and elm trees to begin with and not many of those. However, Joseph's land was on the banks of the Cimmaron River and he pulled those cedar longs out of the river with horses. A century later they still exist, and thanks to the efforts of the Waynoka Historical Society, in particular those of Sandie Olsen, the house will be preserved for future descendants of the area's pioneers to see. The down side of all this is that they need more money to finish the project. Donations of any size would be welcome.
