I've heard Dorthy tell the story of shooting Gene's rifle. Since Dorthy is right-handed, she held the rifle against her right shoulder and did get a hell of a kick. And, if you knew Gene and Dorthy you would know he never "lightly reprimanded her". What he is reported to have said is: JESUS CHRIST! You damned near shot my (expletive deleted)cow!
