Why Zangwill, Oklahoma?

It was named after the British Jewish writer Israel Zangwill who coined the term the melting pot. A report in the Jewish Chronicle of 1898 asked the inhabitants of the small town why they chose the name. They said it was because'of all living writers, we enjoy Mr Zangwill's writings the most.'
