Farmers Elevator & Gas Prices of '39

the product on the coop sales slip might be diesel. is would have been common to purchase gs, diesel and oil at the same time.

I sent one comment on this. It seems that the second product purchased is "kero" meaning kerosine. It was not unusual for gas stations to sell kerosine. I believe that this is what is itemized on the sales slip of the Co-Op. Jim Bradley

Sandie Olson with the Waynoka Historical Society says, "Linda, would the name on the Coop receipt be Kit Carson? Kit lived here probably all his life. His grandson Mark is the publisher of our newspaper."<br><br> Perhaps that faded "H" is a "K" and it is "Kit" instead of "Hat" Carson.

"Hat" looks to me like it might read "Kit". this could have been a nickename.

I used to buy gas at the Co-op in Alva at Barnes & 4th in 1955 for 19 cents per gallon. Gas then ran from $.19 to $.21 per gallon. Metric was really unkown in Alva during those years. Nothing "kilo" meant anything except maybe Japanese slang for a murderer.

Thanks, Bill! I seem to remember a Elizabeth Hollen that worked in the ticket booth of the Rialto theater.

E. Hollen was Elizabeth Hollen I'm not for sure but I think she worked at The Alva Review Courier. She was very well groomed and always looked like she had just stepped out of a band box. Her hobby was china painting. Bill

"kero"... hummmm... that could be it! Thanks, James.

The second entry appears to be " 50 kero 3.50" which would be 7 cents per gal. Does that sound right for the time?
