CommentsVolume 8, Issue 47 - Feature #2229Needing Expert Advise - Computerwise Needing Expert Advise - Computerwise There are several ways this can be accomplished. I don't know about the Linux or Apple computers, but with the Windows computers it should be a snap. I think one of the easiest ways is to set up a simple network between two computers. You can do this with a serial cable or a cat5 network CROSSOVER cable if the older computers have a network card. Make sure the computers have the same "Workgroup" name. Right click on "My Computer", then "properties" to see what the workgroup name is, and/or change it. It doesn't matter what the workgroup name is, as long as it's the same. Once the computers are connected, start them both up. On the XP machine, you should go to START > ALL PROGRAMS > ACCESSORIES > COMMUNICATIONS > NETWORK SETUP WIZARD. After you have the network running then you can use the "Files and Settings Transfer Wizard". It's located at START > ALL PROGRAMS > ACCESSORIES > SYSTEM TOOLS > FILES AND SETTINGS TRANSFER WIZARD. There are quite a few help links in both of these wizards. In theory this is how it should work. An excellent online resource is the cNet forums. I've used it many times to help resolve problems. http://forums.cnet.com Hope this gives you a little help! Kelly A Welch - 2006-11-27 01:06:24 Please submit your own comments below.
