CommentsVolume 7, Issue 14 - Feature #2107th & Church St. - Alva... Yep! The Cook's lived in the house above, NW corner of 7th & Church. Can't remember who lived there before the Cook's, though. Does the name Chamberlain sound familiar? I know whoever it was, their children went to the Catholic school there in Alva. Linda McGill Wagner - 2013-01-14 17:13:12 Opps, I am wrong. You lived on the SW corner? Steve Nicholson - 2013-01-14 14:25:15 Hi Linda, I thought you used to live here. Steve Nicholson - 2013-01-14 14:21:59 Yep! The house on the NW corner of 7th & Church, as far as I can remember was NEVER the Presbytarian Manse. The last family that I know of that lived there was the COOK family. The Manse was just east of the church until it was moved to the SW corner where it is now and a new church was built on the NE corner. We use to live on the SW corner in a two-story frame house that was torn down to make room for the Manse. LK Wagner - 2005-04-15 11:38:10 My Dad was the Presbyterian minister in Alva from 1952 until about 1963. The manse that we lived in was a blond brick quasi-colonial at 624 Church St. -- not the house in the picture. I understand that, when the new church was built, the manse was moved. Norman Smith - 2005-04-10 21:01:03 When, if ever, was the house on the northwest corner of 7th and Church the Presbyterian manse? I remember when it was owned by the Maloneys and then when Bobby Painton's family lived there. SBW - 2005-04-10 20:45:11 Please submit your own comments below.
