Memories From NW Oklahoma...

I remember the little grocery store near Longfellow School. That wasn't far from 224 Center, where my grandparents lived. I would have visited that store in the 1960's, probably.

I remember that Mom & Pop store on Choctaw, because a friend and I use to walk over that way because she lived on Santa Fe. AND... I don't believe I ever did the Saturday night preview, 'cause the folks wouldn't let me out that late at night, but I do remember paying those low prices to saturday & Sunday afternoon matinees at the Rialto. AND... walking from 7th & Church downtown, passed Magnuson's & Schumacher Drugs on the way to the Rialto weekend matinees.

There was a little mom & pop grocery in the 1200-block of Choctaw, I think...one block north of Flynn. I have no recollection of who owned it, but it was a nifty little store that was on the south side of the street, maybe about the middle of the block.

What memories this has brought back to me. And, who could forget the Saturday Night preview "And God Created Woman" staring Brigit Bardeau? Ohhh la la. I actually lived over the Groceteria for a short time.

Yes, I remember those Saturday night previews while I attended NWSTC, 1954-59. It was a good way to see both the movies for the week and to remove the temptation to go to the movie mid-week. Like it was said, "if you could stay awake!" But, one movie for the price of two was a real draw. Jim Bradley
