DoubleO Sims Grocery...

Hello! I don’t know if anyone still monitors this page, but my name is Jean Rose. I am the granddaughter of Margaret Regina Simms. She went by Jean Simms. She used to tell me about the grocery store her Dad owned. She did not have any pictures of it, and I am so happy to find this one. I remember her telling me when that they had buffalo on their ranch. I did not know the connection with grocery store. She told me how they used to have animals in the front window of the grocery store. One time it was a monkey. If anyone has more pictures or memories of the grocery store, I would love it if you would share them with me. Thank you so much for this!

This has to be the store I remember. I was born in 1931 and I remember two things from that little store. My dad and I got pickled herring from a barrel and was that a treat! I can also remember that he bought a "brick" of chile. I just know that this store is one of my first memories as a child since I was so impressed with the pickled herring.

Interesting comment Bill. My Mother, Marie Fox Wadleigh, told me that this Store was the only big grocery store in town. Parker Fox her Father and brother, Glen Fox,are in this picture. My Mother told me that she thinks she was within one year of you in school.

During WWII when meat was scarce OO found out buffalo wasn't rationed. He butchered a couple of buffalo he had on his ranch and the town feasted for about a week. I remember going in the store at that time and marveling at the big thick steaks and roasts that hadn't been seen since the beginning of the war. Bill Barker
