Historical Photos of Colorado- Antlers Hotel

I couldn't resist commenting on your story about the Antlers Hotel in Colorado Springs. Not only did I work there from 1996 to 2007, but I am writing this comment less than a block from the hotel itself. The original hotel was built in 1882 but burnt down in an explosion from the nearby railroad. It was subsequently rebuilt and reopened approximately 1890 and was owned by the El Pomar Foundation who also owned the Broadmoor Hotel. The second Antlers Hotel was demolished in 1964 and rebuilt by the El Pomar Foundation in 1965-1966. This is the same building that is visible today. The hotel became the Antlers Doubletree Hotel in 1988 and was closed for two years for a complete renovation both inside and out and was reopened in 1991. The hotel was sold again in 1998 to become the Antlers Adam's Mark Hotel which sold it to its current flag of Antler's Hilton Hotel. It is of interest to note that the name of "Antlers" will always remain in the name of the hotel no matter who owns the site. I understand that that was stipulated by El Pomar when they originally sold the building in 1988.
