If one thinks that the "Okie" is a term for "poor white trash" then they simply need read The Harvet Gypsies" to find the reality of how Americans shunned the hardworking, honest backbone of America. A born Californian - I am ashamed of the the behavior - My family orgins being Oklahoma and Arkansas - I have found myself identifying with the values and morals of this "poor white trash" class and find that they are actually the Gold of California and the heart of America.
