Eighth Grade Exam - FALSE

You are correct! We've been had, so to speak! Snopes does say this is FALSE! Thanks for helping me clear this up. I should have checked this out on "Snopes" earlier, but running behind time with the lost hour this weekend... LOL!

This test is not new and I am not sure that in 1895 students were expected to know about "metres" along with everything else. I believe that it is a hoax intended to derogate the schools of today which are teaching much more in less time to more students under very adverse conditions. That said, the curricula ought to change with the times to include that which will promote better citizenship, improved understanding of the world, and readiness to assume a productive livelihood. Simple dicta are not useful; start with educators, psychologists, philosophers, generals, and economists. Let them together propose the best curricula.
