Lambert, Yewed, OK & Old Yewed Church

If you will contact Nancy Harmon at the Alfalfa County Clerks office she can give you lots of history about the Yewed Methodist chuch and I am sure that she knows what happened to the windows.

Oh! Too bad about the deteriorating windows. They must have been something in there day. There's got to be an old photo out there someplace with what they looked like in their heyday.

I learned today (24 June 2007) that the windows of this old church were simply allowed to deteriorate to the point that they fell out and were broken. The church officially closed in 1995, but they had stopped meeting in the old building some time before that. This church building and the Prairie Valley church a few miles to the south were very similar in design; the Prairie Valley church was destroyed in a tornado in May 1949 and turned the old Prairie Valley School into their church - they still meet there, three miles south of 'Cozy Curve' (south of Cherokee). The current landowner plans to burn the old church in the not-too-distant future.
