Duchess Corner

Thank you LK...I think I can pretty much find it now, I'll just have to keep a keen watch out...much like a spotter in an aircraft...very very good at that...SO, with His help - I'll get there. Ms. Jan

Jan, If you are headed west on Hwy 11 from Blackwell, OK, it is on the south side of the highway and seems like it is a mile or so west of the the road that leads to the the Salt Plains lake. BUT... it is in that area somewhere and there may be some signs, but it has been awhile since I've been that direction. I do know that McDermott's bought the land around there. Maybe someone else can help from here. BUT... it is near the Salt Plains area in Alfalfa County on the south side of hwy 11.

Eva, thank you so much for telling me exactly where this well is located or the water flow comes out. If I were coming west on Highway #11 from Blackwell, could you tell me where some road markers or what is close by...I hate to drive all the way into Alva & then turn around & come back 27 miles; but I'm going to get some of that water soon, just to taste it. TIA/Thanks in advance... Ms. Jan Hope everyone had a great Memorial Day, I spent it at Eufaula Lake & wasn't all that busy on the lake.

The well is located in Alfalfa County, 27 miles east of Alva on highway 11. It is an artesion well. Many people from all around carry water jugs full of this water back to their homes and use it. It is fixed up now with a pipe that lets a person get water much easier. Also has a fence around it to keep cattle from the exact area. My father was born over by Burlington in 1913 and that well was running ( or shooting ) up out of the ground when his family went to the Salt Plains for salt for the animals.

I made a 2 day visit to Alva the end of January of this year & the person I was visiting with told me about a spring that flows down into Alva (under ground from way up north-perhaps an aquifer), that is great drinking water. He said it comes out on some ones land out of a pipe, which is by one of the new bridges being constructed. Does any one know about the water, does it really exist & if so...where exactly is this water flow located???
