Pugster's Report...

Forgive me I'm becoming aged! On one of the other comments which came in, I said I thought the grocery store was Weibner's, and that Nancy Weibner, who had taught at Longfellow was married to one of the Egners. I had it backwards, Nancy Egner was married to Marvin Weibner. I went to my old AHS annuals, remembering that they used to sell sponsorships, and between '53 and '56, I found Weibner's, Groceteria, Eastside, Blakemores, Clark's Food Market and Bill Shorts Wholesale Market. The only ones escaping me as to location are Groceteria and Clark's.

Don't know if this is the correct place to post this comment, but upstairs over most of the buildings around the square were apartments, doctor offices, and lawyers offices. Upstairs over Beegles Drug Store, Dr Kephford had his chiropractic offices. Hadwiger law offices were upstairs over Schumachers on the west side. Several doctors, including Dr Simon had his office upstairs, over Monfort Drug. A number of apartments were above the Ranger Theater, Old Surety Life Insurance, Johnson Insurance.
